The reason for the title of Puzzle Fit is that the home was designed to maximize the usable space of a peculiarly shaped city corner lot. Four sides of the home hug tightly to the lot lines just within the city setbacks; like a piece of a puzzle!

This was a design of mine which I also had the pleasure to build. As an added feature I scribed a knotty cedar post onto the corner of the existing building to tie the two structures together.

The design of your home should be an enjoyable first step towards getting your project on the go. The input from within a family towards the design of a home adds to the character and livability of the final product. The interactive personal connection between clients and their designer works best through having personal site visits and time spent together going over design ideas, construction techniques, budgeting, etc. I feel it’s quite relevant for designers to know current contractor pricing and material costs because without this knowledge, construction budgets can quickly get blown out of proportion.

MAKE SURE YOUR DESIGNER TAKES THE NECESSARY TIME WITH YOU TO GET YOUR PLANS DRAWN RIGHT TO AVOID FUTURE PROBLEMS!

Plan pricing is quite inconsistent throughout the custom home design market. The average designer charges between 60 cents and $2.50 per square foot for drafting services and an architect can charge much more. Make sure your designer or architect has a good understanding of building, preferably with some construction experience, to help you feel confident that your project ends up being built the way the plans show.
